Greetings from Lynnette - aka Lucy - Najimy
Welcome! I suppose I should begin by clarifying my name. My Mom and Dad insist I tell you that my given name is Lynnette. It is the name by which most people know me. When I was 8 years old, I decided I wanted to be "Lucy". Of course, no one took me seriously then and it wasn't until I was an adult that I reclaimed my pseudonym. It suits me. Maybe it's an alter ego. No matter, when you call to discuss your Beansprout Production, you can call me what you like.
Admittedly, Lucy was adopted from my fascination with Lucille Ball and I Love Lucy. Truth be told, she remains one of my hero's and I'm still captivated by her life and her story for reasons I can't quite explain. I've read countless books and articles, watched close to a full year's worth of her movies and television, yet she remains as enigmatic to me today as ever. I have always related to how her story and her life seem to be contradictions of themselves. This existential concept that started in childhood is foremost in my mind in every story I produce. In fact, it is what makes stories worth sharing. Aren't we all a series of contradictions and ironies?
I live in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, where the abundance of kind people, goodness, music, and natural and artistic beauty offer a constant muse. My AHA! moment came in 1999. Working for nearly 20 years in the field of human services with children and families whose lives were largely impacted by poverty and the many iterations of violence that come with it, I witnessed their daily lives, full of joys and struggles. Though the details varied, their stories had the same ironies and contradictions as Lucy's, my own, and those of every one else. At the same time I witnessed the ways in which our culture perpetuates the very experiences for which we judge, admonish and dismiss one another. The hope is in sharing our stories.
In 2002 I received a Master's Degree in Philanthropy and Media from Suffolk University. The combination of these two fields was so well aligned with my own mission to use the power of story as a tool for revealing our similarities in ways our culture and its divides doesn't easily allow. When we hear someone's story and we understand their experiences, we are less likely to judge, admonish and dismiss them. We find commonality and compassion and it becomes easier to respect, support, and trust one another. These are the basis for growth and progress.
This concept is at the root of every project for Beansprout Productions. As Director of Multimedia for Music In Common , in a DocuStory for a family, as producer of an event, or building a community on the internet, my role becomes one of a visionary who recognizes, appreciates and celebrates the power of our shared experiences. Words, images, and music become the means for connecting people in ways they may not have known possible. My network is deep and wide, my creative vision limitless, my energy for making things happen is unbounded, and my desire for goodness is inspired. These passions guide my work and my life.
